Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali handed over honourarium to 557 Imams and Muezzins under monthly honourarium scheme introduced by Telangana government. An event was organised by Waqf Board on Monday in which the scheme was formally launched. In the first phase 551 Imams and Muezzins were handed over cheques of Rs. 9000 each which included 9 months’ arrears.
Deputy Chief Minister handed over cheques to Imams and Muezzins. MLAs Farooq Husain, Mohammed Saleem and M S Prabhakar Deputy, Mayor Baba Fasihuddin, Special Officer Hajj Committee Prof. S A Shukoor and others attended the programme.
8934 applications from imams and muezzins of around 5,000 masajid from across the state were received for the scheme. Deputy Chief Minister admitted that the honourarium was insufficient and assured that the government would soon increase the amount.
