New Delhi,May 04 :With the police exploring the angle of honour killing in the death of Delhi-based journalist Nirupama Pathak, her mother Sudha Pathak was arrested today on the charge of murder. Sudha, a housewife, has given contradictory statements to the police on how her daughter died.
An alumnus of New Delhi’s Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), 22-year-old Nirupama worked for the Business Standard. She was planning to get married to her IIMC batchmate Priyabhanshu Ranjan, who works for PTI (Bhasha). Nirupama’s family was opposed to the alliance as they are Brahmins and Ranjan is a Kayastha.

The police are also investigating if Sudha carried out the alleged murder on her own or was helped by others. While the mother has said that she and Nirupama were alone at home when the incident happened,s that their inquiries had revealed that Nirupama’s father and two brothers were all on leave from their respective offices.
