Bantwal: In an exemplary show of honesty, a pedestrain in Bantwal returned gold jewellery to the police to hand over to its owner.
Hameed, a resident of Balthila Neerupade was walking on the road when he came across a plastic bag covered with paper. When opened the packet, he found gold ornaments weighing around 380 grams in it, as per media reports.
Not knowing what to do, Hameed sought help from Shivakumar, Balthila grama panchayat member. Both went to Bantwal police station and handed over the bag to make sure that it reaches to its rightful owner.
On Monday, Panemangaluru resident named Narasimha Prabhu went to the station to lodge a complaint about his missing jewellery.
After securing details about the lost jewellery and fully convinced by Prabhu, the local police in the presence of Hameed and Shivakumar handed over the gold jewellery bag to Prabhu.
The rare gesture displayed by Hameed and Shivakumar earned them much appreciation in the society.
