Honduras threatens Brazil, calls for media regulation

Venenzuela, September 28: After giving an ultimatum to Brazil’s embassy over ousted president Manuel Zelaya, the Honduran interim government has called for media regulations and a ban on protests.

On Sunday, the interim government of Honduras, headed by Roberto Micheletti, threatened to shut down the embassy of Brazil within 10 days if it refuses to hand over Zelaya.

The ousted president has taken refuge at the embassy after sneaking back to Honduras last week. He was removed from power through a military coup in June.

Moreover, the interior minister of the interim government, Oscar Matute, said the media that “disturb peace” should be regulated.

Meanwhile the de facto government has denied entry to a delegation of the Organization of the American States (OAS). The group was seeking to mediate in the crisis. The OAS suspended Honduras’ membership in July after Zelaya’s ouster.
