Home minister, VC face student ire at hospital

Hyderabad, February 16: Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy had to face the ire of students when she went to the Durgabhai Deshmukh hospital to visit the injured on Monday.

As she walked towards a student to enquire about her health condition, the girl hurled a question straight at her. “Why did you come here. It was you who made us take the cane blows and now you visit us to enquire about our well-being. Does this make any sense?’’ Swapna, the student, asked.

The minister reportedly was aghast at the condition of the students who suffered the lathi blows.

The students, on the other hand, were also unhappy about Vice- Chancellor T Tirupati Rao remaining silent when police were on the rampage.

“It is sad that the Vice-Chancellor did not even bother to condemn the attack. Today, he became so infamous that even in my home town in Medak district, people are questioning his credibility and commitment towards student welfare,’’ a student bemoaned before Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) former MLA Eatela Rajendra who visited the hospital.

When Tirupati Rao went to the hospital to visit the injured students, agitated students did not allow him to enter the premises. After some wait, he had to leave without calling on the injured.

Meanwhile, Telangana Jagruthi chief Kavita visited the hospital and enquired about the health of students.

Accompanied by an advocate, she approached girl students and tried to know how the police had misbehaved with them.
