Hyderabad, January 20: The state government has finally woken up to the pathetic conditions of the Home Guards working in the police department who have been leading a harsh life due to their meagre salary by deciding to increase the their wages.
A decision to this effect has been taken after Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy and Director General of Police K Aravinda Rao met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at the Secretariat on Thursday and enlightened him about the necessity of the wage-hike.
Earlier, the Home Guards were paid Rs 130 which has been increased to Rs 200 per day, informed the Home Minister after emerging out from her meeting with the Chief Minister.
Following the hike in Home Guards’ daily wages, the government will have to bear an additional burden of Rs 68 crore.
Another issue pertaining to the release of prisoners also figured in the meeting with the Chief Minister, who has given his nod for their remission.
The cut off date for remission of prisoners was December 31 in 2010 which has been extended to January 25 this year. The nod by the Chief Minister will facilitate the release of 284 prisoners on the Republic Day, January 26.
As the government has extended remission date, more prisoners may be released, informed the Home Minister.
