Even as the police forces seem to be plagued by deep-rooted corruption & criminal activity, there is no dearth of such persons in police department who leave no stone unturned to embarrass corrupt officials through their efficiency and dutifulness. One among them is Home Guard Akbar Ali who saved four precious lives by his timely action. On December 17, as usual, Ali was busy regulating traffic at Khairiatabad junction. At around 12 noon, his attention was drawn to a Maruti Swift car. A lot of smoke was emanating from the car, he also noticed sparks in the rear of the car and ran after it to alert the driver, but the driver thought otherwise and was trying to speed away. A little later, the car stopped and Ali, with the help of the car driver pulled out the family safely from the car. As soon as the 4 passengers were evacuated from the car, the car went into flames.
The superior officers including Mr. Amit Gurg appreciated him and the home guard commandant gave him a cheque of Rs. 2000 as an award. The car driver Manzoor Ali resident of Kanchan Bagh and the women riding the car also thanked him for saving their lives.
Ali, who has passed SSC, works as a security guard after performing his duty as home guard. Surprisingly his services are not regularised. He wants his services regularised so that he need not have to run around to make ends meet.
