Hoax bomb threat creates flutter

Hyderabad, January 17: A threat call to blast Malkajgiri station by an unidentified person created some tense moments for police and commuters on Sunday morning. The threat call, however, turned out to be a prank.

Around 10 a.m, the booking clerk at the ticket counter received a call by an unidentified person.

“The caller told the clerk that a bomb was planted in the counter and it could explode anytime,’’ Secunderabad railway police sub-inspector Arulappa said. The clerk informed the threat call to police, who swung into action along with the bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs.

The Railway Protection Force (GRP), Government Railway Police (GRP) and Malkajgiri police conducted a massive search in the booking counter and also in the entire station premises for more than one-and-half hours and found no explosives anywhere. “It turned out to be a hoax call by a prankster,’’ Arulappa said.

Malkajgiri police have registered a case and are investigating.

Police reportedly tracked down the number from where the call was made and is trying to nab the prankster.
