HMWS&SB workers threaten strike

Hyderabad, June 14: Employees of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board on Sunday threatened to go on an indefinite agitation from June 21 if the board failed to resolve the long-pending demands of sewerage workers.

Speaking to reporters here, HMWS&SB Staff and Workers Union general secretary K Satyanarayana and others said as the management failed to concede their long-pending demands on regularisation of HR workers, they had decided to go on an indefinite strike from June 21. The government alone would be responsible for the consequences, they said.

The management had failed to implement the orders passed by the high court on February 9, 2007 directing the board to regularise the services of 294 HR workers, they alleged. Even after the water board general body meeting resolving to solve the workers problems nothing had happened, they said. The union’s repeated appeals to the management to provide jobs to the kin of deceased HR workers too evoked no response.
