HMWSSB Chief reviews water quality in Osmansagar, Himayathsagar

Hyderabad: HMWSSB Managing Director Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, along with other senior officials, visited the Himayathsagar and Osmansagar lakes and reviewed the quality and quantity of the water in the lakes.

It is informed that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has got prepared the DPR for construction of Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) around the Osmansagar and Himayathsagar lakes by engaging a consultancy which works out to Rs. 40.50 Crores. On the Managing Director’s instructions, a letter was addressed to the Telangana State Pollution Control Board for funding for the construction of STPs. The TSPCB has agreed to bear 1/3rd cost of the project i.e Rs. 13.50 Crores. The Panchayat Raj department is addressed to bear the balance cost of Rs. 27 Crores. After receiving the amounts from both the departments the work of construction of STPs will be taken up, the Board said in a press release on Friday.

Further, the HMWSSB informed that the Fishing Activity in both the lakes has been stopped and all the other activities are being monitored by the departments concerned with coordination during inter-departmental and lake protection meetings. NEERI has also stated that all the general parameters in Osmansagar and Himayathsagar Lakes are within the permissible limits and can be used for drinking water after proper treatment. (INN)
