Hyderabad, August 13: Residents living in the surround areas of Nampally Market and Aghapura are involved in a tussle with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board.
The residents refused to pay bills sent by the HMWSSB saying that they have to trudge a long way to bring water since the Board is not supplying them with adequate of the precious liquid.
The residents complain that officials at the Hindinagar division of the HMWSSB, which is responsible for the area, simply are not bothered to address the issue.
A private school teacher Md Maozzam says, “the officials ask us to clear all pending bills first, before they could solve our problem.” He says the situation of the low pressure in the area, coupled with just one hour of supply every alternate day, has turned the situation into a crisis.
He is among numerous people in the area who says that it has been more than three months since the water pressure was decreased and so did the quantity of the precious liquid.
The residents of the area have made personal representations quite a few times to wake the Water Board officials of their slumber and get them to act.
But the officials simply are in no mood to show some sympathy towards the complainants. One Nampally Market resident said, the Board officials simply turn us away by saying that they would look into our problem if our bills are cleared. My question is, if the water is not supplied, then why do we have to pay the bills?”
