Hyderabad, February 2: The Director of Urban Development Research Institute, Mr P Narsing Rao, has opined that the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) will save the State government from allegations of traffic mismanagement on the city roads.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Mr Narsing Rao said that there was general opinion that the government has miserably failed to ensure effective traffic management in Hyderabad where traffic jams on the roads were common sight. Though there were different opinions on Hyderabad Metro Rail System, it should be moulded into a more effective one with adequate modifications, he said, adding that the government should pay proper compensation to citizens whose properties are acquired for the project. He also pointed out that the facility of local trains has become inevitable for the people in Mumbai.
“The team of UDRI was conducting training for the employees of municipalities and Municipal Corporations on how to improve financial resources and ensure good governance. So far, we have conducted 50 training programmes”, he added.
On the request of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, the UDRI is conducting the training programme from February 3 to 5 for Municipal officials and employees in Mumbai. He also said that the UDRI delegates will also attend the “Urban Governance Conference” to be held in June in Australia.
