The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), through the Lake Protection Committee along with GHMC, Revenue Dept, Irrigation Dept and Local bodies has taken up the Protection and Conservation of Lakes/Water bodies in Hyderabad Metropolitan Region. As part of this, the identification of Lakes/water bodies through field verification is taken up involving the field staff of Revenue Department, Irrigation Department and the local bodies.

After a thorough exercise, it was found that a total number of 2857 lakes are existing in the entire area of HMDA. Out of this, 455 lakes are falling inside the Outer Ring Road and 2402 are falling outside the ORR area of HMDA. Out of the lakes falling in HMDA jurisdiction, 168 lakes fall in GHMC limits and 2689 Lakes fall in Gram Panchayats and Municipalities outside the GHMC in the HMDA limits. The complete list of 2857 lakes is available on the website of HMDA (www.hmda.gov.in) for the information of public.

The HMDA and GHMC have engaged consultants to assist the Irrigation and Revenue Departments in demarcation and fixing of the FTL boundaries and for preparation of lake maps in the erstwhile HUDA area. The demarcation of FTL boundaries is completed for 340 lakes by the Irrigation and Revenue Departments. The FTL demarcation work for the balance lakes is under progress.

At present, 50 Lake maps are prepared with FTL boundaries showing Lat-long co-ordinates and buffer zones all around the lakes and also superimposed with Revenue survey numbers. After due verification and certification by the Irrigation Department, the lake maps with FTL boundaries and buffer zones duly showing Revenue survey numbers are being notified as preliminary notification for public information/suggestions/comments. The copy of the notification along with the list of 50 lakes notified is enclosed. The balance lakes will be also notified in a phased manner.

After examining the objections and suggestions received, if any, on the FTL boundary and buffer zone of lakes notified, the final notification will be issued and further action taken. (INN)
