Hyderabad, December 28:The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has initiated the process of installing antiglare panels on the 11.6 km long P.V. Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway to help drivers negotiate the curves better on the stretch.
A unique feature, said to be first-of-its-kind on a flyover in the country, these panels are aimed at preventing accidents at sharp curves on the expressway that offers unhindered access from the city towards the international airport at Shamshabad. A total of 5,000 antiglare panels made of glass fibre reinforced plastic are to be spread out on the median at appropriate distances with concrete or steel as base material.
The HMDA has called for tenders from manufacturers and others for the product to be so designed in such a way that the glare does not get reflected against the moving vehicle and the panel has to be pigmented with green colour. Since the expressway has some sharp cuts at some points, the light from headlamps of a vehicle during the night time could blind drivers on the opposite side. The tender seek bids from agencies that possess relevant experience in Sheet Moulding Component and UV certificate for the product and the last date for submission of bids has been fixed as January 8, 2010.
Another unique aspect of the HMDA planning for the expressway located between S.D.Eye Hospital and Aramgarh Junction is to have noise barriers that help check noise levels rising high from the vehicles using the stretch. This is aimed at handling the noise pollution going out of control for the residential zones alongside the expressway.
