HLP demands probe by SIT into phone tapping

Himachal Lokhit Party (HLP) today asked Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into alleged phone tapping during previous BJP regime in Himachal Pradesh. “A probe by High Court judge as demanded by the BJP or former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal may not serve the purpose and the criminal aspect of the sordid act may not be investigated and only a SIT can bare the truth and expose the political dimensions of phone tapping,” HLP President Maheshwar Singh said. Maheshwar, who led the party delegation to CM Virbhadra Singh, said the alleged phone tapping was a serious offence and Dhumal, who was also heading the Home ministry then, cannot absolve himself from the responsibility of illegal and undemocratic act of phone tapping. Alleging violation of section 118 of HP tenancy and Land Reforms Act during the previous BJP regime, the HLP chief demanded a thorough probe into the matter. PTI
