Hindu outfits are responsible for abducting catholic girls: Bishop

A Catholic bishop in Kerala on Saturday kicked up a controversy saying that Christian girls were being “abducted by love jihad” which, he claimed, was being carried out secretly by motives of Hindu outfit Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam.

The SNDP Yogam is a prominent community of outfit of Ezhava, a backward Hindu community in Kerala.

Addressing a meeting of a Church body, Bishop Mathew Anikuzhikkattil said the Catholic believers should oppose the inter-caste marriage, although the government is promoting it. “Our girls are being abducted by love… secret aims of the Hindu outfits. We should be vigilant against this,” he further added.

“A girl who lived with her parents till the age of 18, who had grown up in Catholic faith and tradition, walks away with an auto driver or an SNDP yogam man. Such girls are abandoning the Christian faith, which should be seriously noted.

Recently the Catholic Church in Kerala had launched a matrimonial website in a bid to prevent inter-caste marriages. According to Bishop the trend of Catholic men and women finding life partners from other communities is on the rise. The website is meant to curb the same.
