Himachal Pradesh’s E-Vidhan project creates national impact

The Himachal Pradesh government’s initiative of going paperless while conducting the proceedings in its Legislative Assembly has created ripples far and wide with states from the northeast and other parts of the country showing interest to gain knowledge about this project.

Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker , Brij Bihari Lal Butail has stated that the hill state had started the E-Vidhan project with an idea to make paperless assembly sessions and it has succeeded in this as many states are now showing interest into this and added that members from north eastern states, would be visiting soon to see the E-Vidhan project.

Butail also indicated that the winter session of the Assembly would also be done with paperless work.

The Speaker of the Himachal Legislative Assembly told the press that union communication and information technology ministry has suggested showcasing the E-Vidhan project of the state in the next minister’s conference on Information technology.

Drawing attention about the benefit of this project, Butail said that the state would be saving Rs 15 crore annually. He also said that with this process around 6000 trees would be saved thus reducing the usage of papers which would in turn make it a low cost session for the assembly and the government.

According to media reports, the E-Vidhan project, was inaugurated by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on August 4 this year.
