Guntur, October 22: A high drama continued at the Guntur Bar Association for several hours on Thursday when the police tried to break the indefinite fast launched by advocates Munnangi Sambireddy, Neelam Sankara Rao and T Ravindrababu demanding a High Court bench for coastal districts.
Over 100 policemen reached the fast camp and tried to remove it. But the agitating advocates resisted their attempt.
Meanwhile, the fasting advocates went into the Bar Association hall and locked themselves from inside.
The three advocates who have been on indefinite fast for the past four days, threatened to commit suicide if the police tried to break the door open.
The police officials pleaded with JAC convener Samuel John to cooperate with them in shifting the fasting advocates to hospital as their health is fast deteriorating.
At this juncture, heated arguments took place between the police officials and advocates. Some advocates threatened to file private cases against the police officials if they tried to cross their limits.
Meanwhile, members of Bar Associations held rallies and dharnas at various places in the district to press their demand for HC bench for coastal districts. In Guntur city, advocates staged a dharna at the RTC bus stand.
