Hyderabad, January 25 (INN): A division bench of Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday set aside the election of Telugu Desam MLC Narsa Reddy from the local bodies’ constituency of Nizamabad district.
The bench while giving its verdict declared the election of Narsa Reddy as invalid and declared Venkat Rami Reddy of Congress candidate as elected by a margin of two votes.
Narsa Reddy’s election was challenged by his nearest rival Venkat Rami Reddy in the State High Court. Following the petition, the votes were re-conducted in the presence of High Court judges who declared Rami Reddy elected by two votes.
Narsa Reddy had filed a petition in the Supreme Court in this regard. However, the apex court directed him to approach the State High Court. After Tuesday’s verdict of the High Court, Narsa Reddy said that he would move a petition in the Supreme Court seeking justice.
After getting a copy of court’s judgment, he said that he would consult legal experts and file a petition in the apex court. Following the HC verdict, TDP’s strength in the legislative council got reduced to 17. (INN)
