High command asks state party leaders to keep mum on panel report

Hyderabad, December 31: The Congress leaders in the State, reportedly got directions from the party high command not to talk with media after 11 am on Thursday i.e. after submission of Justice Srikrishna Committee report to the Union Home Minister.

As per the suggestion of the AICC president, Ms Sonia Gandhi, the in-charge of party AP affairs, Mr Digvijay Singh, telephoned the Congress leaders in the State and issued the diktat. The high command has issued the directions as Telangana statehood issue was expected to come to boil again when the panel submits its report on Thursday. The Congress has already tasted the political implications of its flip-flop on the issue. Just a year after its landslide victory in the Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections last year, the party was trounced in the July by-elections in Telangana, where TRS won 11 of the 12 seats.

After intensified Telangana agitation, the Congress was facing unfavourable atmosphere in the State. It was tough time for the Congress high command to reduce the impact on the party and to avoid any damage to it in the State after submission of Justice Srikrishna Committee Report to the Centre.

The Centre has also released guidelines to the media to follow in the coverage of news of Justice Srikrishna Report and its analysis.
