New Delhi, April 29: Based on intelligence inputs, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday issued a terror alert for Kolkata.
The specific alert, which has been sent to the West Bengal Police, points to heightened activity of sleeper cells of some terrorists groups in the eastern metropolis.
As per reports, Subash Chandra Bose International Airport, Kalighat Kali Mandir and 24 Parganas, are the possible targets.
State Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh told a news channel: “Yes, we have certain inputs about terrorist trying to take some kind of action here. We are working on it and getting up to meet this threat.”
Although the DGP refused to reveal the exact nature of the treat and the terrorist organisation behind the sinister plan, a police officer has been quoted by a news agency as saying that the Indian Mujahideen is behind the plot.
“We have received inputs that the Indian Mujaheedin is planning to do something. We can’t say anything more on this at this moment,” the officer said on condition of anonymity.
