High alert in Hyderabad after attack on Owaisi

Hyderabad, April 30: Police sounded high alert in the old city of Hyderabad Saturday after an attack on Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader and Andhra Pradesh legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi.

Police forces, including personnel from paramilitary Rapid Action Force, were rushed to the communally sensitive area.

Shopkeepers downed shutters in various parts of the old city as the news of the assassination attempt on the young leader spread like wild fire.

Senior police officers, with large number of personnel, took control of Owaisi Hospital in Santoshnagar area where Akbaruddin has been admitted in a serious condition.

MIM leaders and activists in large numbers were seen heading towards the hospital.

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy held a meeting with state Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy and Director General of Police K. Aravinda Rao at the state secretariat to review the situation.
