Anantapur, January 24: A Home Guard, who is supposed to protect people and their properties, himself turned a criminal by trying to abduct a woman after beating her husband in Kadiri town late last night.
The couple, Adi and Janaki from Veeraobulvaripalle of Odicheruvu mandal, went to Kadiri to attend a function after which they reached the bus stand to return home. By then it was night and ts there were no buses at that time the couple were going to a relative’s home to stay fore the night. On the way, a Home Guard, Ramprasad, stopped them and started asking them probing questions though they told him that they were a couple. The Home Guard beat the husband and threw him aside, and took away the woman on his motorcycle towards Nallacheruvu.
A constable on night patrol, who heard the woman’s cries for help, chased the Home Guard’s bike, nabbed him and took him to the police station where the woman’s husband was waiting.
Kadiri DSP P Subbarayudu interrogated the Home Guard and registered a case.
The accused will be produced in the court on Monday. It is learnt that he had faced such charges in the past and was set free due to lack of witnesses.
