Hezbollah lauds ‘brave’ US reporter

Gaza, June 10: Hezbollah has praised veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas for her “courageous” comments in support of Palestinian people, which cost her a forced retirement.

“Respected American journalist Helen Thomas’s answer shows … a courageous, bold, honest and free opinion which expresses what people across the globe believe: that Israel is a racist state of murderers and thugs,” AFP quoted Hezbollah MP Hussein Moussawi as saying in a statement released Wednesday.

When asked at a May 27 “Jewish Heritage Celebration” whether she had any comments on Israel, Thomas — who is of Lebanese descent — replied: “Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine.”

Remember these people are occupied and it’s their land, not German and not Poland,” Thomas said. “They can go home, Poland, Germany, and America and everywhere else.”

The 89-year-old Thomas, the longest-serving reporter in the White House press corps, had to retire on Monday under mounting pressure from US officials over her pro-Palestinian remarks.
