Heroin worth Rs 10 cr smuggled from Pak seized

Amritsar, September 26: Two kilograms of heroin valued at around Rs 10 crore and smuggled here through the Indo-Pak border were seized by the special operation cell of Punjab Police today and two persons arrested in this connection.

The arrested men have been identified as Sandeep Singh and Jodhbir Singh, both residents of the border village of Hawalia, the SOC said in a statement.

It said Hawalian lies in close proximity to Pakistan territory and the consignment of drugs was smuggled to India from Pakistan through the village.

On a tip-off, the two men were arrested from the outskirts of Amritsar when they were travelling on a two-wheeler carrying the drugs, the SOC said adding, they were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the seized drugs were part of a bigger consignment of heroin recently smuggled from Pakistan.
