Dubai: A firefighter, identified as Jassim Essa Al-Baloushi heralded as a hero, who was killed “while saving the lives of others passengers,” after an Emirates flight crash-landed at Dubai International Airport.
According to a report from The Mirror, the brave firefighter sustained fatal injuries during the rescue operation and lost his life.
However, his valiant efforts were not in vain, as he managed to rescue 282 fliers and 12 cabin staff before the jet turned burst into flames earlier on Wednesday.
Officials from the The General Civil Aviation Authority said (GCAA) paid tribute to the fallen hero’s “ultimate sacrifice.”
Residents were “proud of our youth and their sacrifices while performing their duties in protecting lives and saving people, tweeted ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Altogether 300 people, including 18 crew members, were on board, all of whom are reported safe.
The 282 passengers come from 20 countries, including 224 from India, 24 from Britain and 11 from the UAE, the Emirates said.
