Hyderabad, June 25: A plaque highlighting the historical importance of Paigah Palace (which at present houses the office of the U.S. Consulate) was inaugurated by US Consul General Cornelis M Keur on Thursday.
The building has been listed as a Heritage Building by the state government in 1998. It was constructed in 1896 by Nawab Iqbal-ud-Doula (Sir Vicar-ul-Umra II), one of the Paigah nobles and the prime minister during the reign of the sixth Nizam, Mir Mohbub Ali Khan. The building became the office of the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority in 1982.
AV Bhide, member urban planner, V Madhwaraja, chief engineer and Syed Ziauddin, chief planning officer, HMDA, Sajjad Shahid, Sanjay Torvi, Ramesh Kamajosyula, member of Heritage Conservation Committee and officials of the Consulate were among those present.
