NEW DELHI: A number of right-wingers targeted the Zomato over halal tag for the food items.
Many of the users accusing Zomato of causing caste divide and begin leaving one star ratings for its app on the Google play, App store.
Communal Criticism
Zomato trended furiously all of Wednesday after it turn down the communal criticism to the Jabalpur man, Amit Shukla, who posted a scathing tweet, saying, “Just cancelled an order on @ZomatoIN they allocated a non hindu rider for my food they said they can’t change rider and can’t refund on cancellation I said you can’t force me to take a delivery I don’t want don’t refund just cancel.”
Zomato quickly respond and gave him a piece of their mind to Shukla but face immense trolling.
Defending its move, Zomato in a public letter later explained the reason behind categorizing Halal and non-Halal food.
The company’s latest explanation over Halal tag hasn’t helped and several users started leaving poor reviews.
“This app is communalising the Indian society and wrongly shaming Hindu religion with its current Hindu-only rider tweet,” one of the users who have left a one-star review on Google Play said.
We Stand By You: Uber eats to Zomato
In the midst of the raging online debate, Zomato’s archrival Uber Eats has expressed support and shown their solidarity.
Needless to mention, with its response, Uber Eats topped the trends list garnering more than 6,000 retweets and almost 31,000 likes for the particular post, apart from online praising for supporting Zomato.
