Washington D.C. [USA]: Amber Heard, who recently split from Johnny Depp, reportedly has not given any money to charity as the divorce has not been finalized yet.
The 30-year-old actress’ attorney Pierce O’Donnell tells E! Online that she is unable to donate the funds at the moment as the divorce documents have not been signed.
When the couple reached their agreement in August, Heard had promised to donate the 7 million dollars she earns from the divorce entirely to charity. She said she planned to split the money between the ‘American Civil Liberties Union’, with a particular focus to stop violence against women, as well as the ‘Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles’.
“The settlement documents are being finalized and will be signed this week,” Heard’s lawyer explained, adding, “Johnny is obligated by the settlement to pay Amber, and she in turn will honor her pledges to Children’s Hospital and the American Civil Liberties Union.”
O’Donnell continued, “Amber’s commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence and helping sick children is her life’s work. Her recent PSA on domestic violence does not violate her settlement agreement with Johnny. She will continue to lend her voice to the rising chorus of women speaking out about this terrible scourge on the American family.”
Meanwhile, the actress also released a very emotional PSA over the weekend, teaming up with ‘#GirlGaze Project’ to address violence against women and domestic abuse.
“Speak up, speak up. Raise your voice, your voice is the most powerful thing and we, together, as women standing shoulder to shoulder cannot and will not any longer accept silence,” she encouraged.
At many points in the video, Heard is seen fighting back tears, as she describes in detail the “shame” she felt through her experience.
“I guess there was a lot of shame attached to that label of ‘victim,'” Heard explained. “It happens to so many women. When it happens in your home, behind closed doors, with someone you love, it’s not as straightforward. If a stranger did this it would be a no-brainer.”
The ‘Drive Angry’ star then reflected on the support she received from close confidants.
“If I hadn’t had a few people that I really trust around me, a few women support, a few friends. If I hadn’t had them around me, how different my life would be,” she shared.
Heard also expressed that she believed there should be a greater focus on the negative stigma attached to reporting instances of domestic abuse and how to combat it, instead of solely addressing the attackers. (ANI)
