Colombo : Sri Lanka veteran spinner Rangana Herath has announced his retirement from limited-overs cricket in a bid to prolong his Test career.
“Every cricketer has to stop at the right time, I feel it’s time to make room for fresh talent to be groomed with the 2019 World Cup in view,” the 38-year-old said in a letter to Sri Lanka Cricket while adding that he would like to concentrate on the longer-format of the game.
Herath has taken 74 wickets from 71 ODIs, while claiming 18 T20I wickets from 17 matches. He played an instrumental role in Sri Lanka’s victorious 2014 World T20 campaign.
Meanwhile, the left-hand spinner has claimed a staggering 297 wickets in mere 67 Tests. (ANI)
