Helping society get rid of remarriage stigma

New Delhi: While the social stigma associated with divorce has definitely mellowed down in recent years, India’s divorced and separated still find it challenging to remarry.

To help them, DivorceeMatrimony, a re-marriage matrimony service, has launched a TV Ad to raise awareness about the availability of better choices to the divorcees and the separated.

Over the past 10 years, DivorceeMatrimony has helped lakhs of divorcees find a life partner. With the acquisition of SecondShaadi.com earlier this year, Matrimony.com has further boosted the chances for them to find a life partner and rebuild their lives.

The increasing breakdown of relationships, the rising divorces and the growing numbers of cases in family courts has led the company to believe that young people certainly need support in finding a life partner post their divorce or separation.

“While India has a very low rate of divorces at 0.11 percent of the total population, the increase in divorces in recent years is a cause for concern. In such a scenario, we believe every person deserves a dignified second chance and that’s why we launched a TV commercial to raise awareness about the choices available for such people. For the broken hearted divorcees and the separated, online offers the perfect and safe opportunity to meet and know each other before taking a decision,” said Murugavel Janakiraman, CEO, Matrimony.com.

About 1.36 million people in India are divorced. The number of people separated is almost thrice the number of people divorced – 0.29 percent of the total population. Maximum number of divorces in India are reported from Gujarat, Assam, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir.
