Governor E S L Narasimhan on Saturday stated that the government benefits should reach the doorsteps of unfortunate women, who lost their husbands.
Participating as chief guest in the second anniversary of Loombha Foundation to mark International Widows Day, the Governor said that the present system has to undergo a drastic change to ensure that the government benefits reach the widows. Expressing concern over the widows moving from pillar to post to get their due benefits, he said that the government should take measures to ensure that benefits reach the widows at their doorstep itself and make necessary changes wherever needed in the existing system.
Speaking on the occasion, National Disaster Management Authority Vice-Chairman Marri Shasidhar Reddy said that the government should take steps for the welfare of orphans.
Later, the Governor distributed sewing machines to poor women and distributed scholarships to meritorious children.
