‘Help the poor in cultivating distributed land’

Hyderabad, April 13: Chief Minister K Rosaiah has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan to help the landless poor to put the land distributed to them to use.

He also wanted them to ensure that bank loans are made available to them to take up cultivation. The Chief Minister said unless the distributed land is made cultivable, the landless poor will not be able to derive any benefit from them. “It is no use distributing land to the landless poor, unless he is helped to cultivate it. The official machinery should come forward to help them,’’ the Chief Minister said.

He said that an extent of 1,00,615 acres land has already been identified for distribution to over 69,506 beneficiaries in the fifth phase in 22 districts in the State. Each family is given land not exceeding 2.50 acres of wetland or 5 acres of dryland including the land originally held by the family.

The Chief Minister said the State Government has already distributed surplus land to the landless poor in the State in four phases to an extent of 6,03,809 acres. These lands were distributed among 4,33,723 landless beneficiaries so far.

The Chief Minister, who will launch the fifth phase of land distribution at Shadnagar (Mahabubnagar district) on April 14 – the birth anniversary of B.R.Ambedkar, discussed the preparations for the programme with Chief Secretary S.V.Prasad, CCLA and Special C.S Pankaj Dwivedi; Secretary, Revenue Rajeswar Tiwari today.

It has been decided in the meeting to hold a video conference on Praja Patham and land distribution with all district collectors and officials on April 15.

The Chief Minister has suggested to the Revenue Minister D Prasada Rao over phone to take all necessary steps to make the land distribution programme a success. He wanted him to ensure that registration of land is done in the names of the women and place their names in the website prior to distribution.

The Revenue Minister informed the Chief Minister that seven IAS Officers have been entrusted to monitor and supervise the fifth phase of land distribution programme allotting them two to three districts.

The details of district-wise land distribution are: Srikakulam-1468.99 acres; Vizianagaram – 2155.14 acres; Visakhapatnam – 6188.27; East Godavari – 4741.34; West Godavari – 699.88; Krishna – 1563.24; Guntur – 1202.83; Prakasam – 4315.92; SPS Nellore – 6815.00; Chittoor – 17,842.27; Kadapa – 8981.16; Anantapur – 11,061.28; Kurnool – 5959.48; Mahaboobnagar – 1777.03; Medak – 3947.68; Nizamabad – 2106.02; Adilabad – 6692.24; Karimnagar – 1966.48; Warangal – 4847.47; Khammam – 2749.16; Nalgonda – 2678.27 and Rangareddy – 856.07 acres and the total is 1,00,615.22 acres.
