Help irrigate 48,000 acres in Adilabad by December, Harish tells officials

Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today directed the officials to complete the projects in Adilabad district as per schedule and help irrigate 48000 acres ayacut by December this year. He said the government has released Rs 33 crore for providing waters to IIT and BalaSaraswathi Temple for devotees in Basara by next June by constructing a check-dam across theGodavari River.

Harish Rao held a review meeting on Adilabad irrigation projects and other schemes and asked the officials to speed up the related works. While the previous Congress government had neglected irrigation projects in the district, the TRS on coming to power released Rs 1,227 crore for the purpose, he said. He expressed dissatisfaction over the officials failing to complete the works.

Out of 6,000 acres target to bring under ayacut, the officials could not irrigate even 3,000 acres despite availability of the funds under CADWM for modernization of Satnala, Swarna, Vattivagu, Chelimala vagu, Kadem, Saraswathi Canal, Sadarmat canal, he lamented. He also said Rs 22 crore released for modernization of canals, only 3,000 acres are being irrigated out of 9,000 acres under Swarna project, he said.

Harish Rao directed the officials to complete the construction of three check-dams to fill the gap ayacut as the government has already released Rs 16 crore and also use Rs 28 crore to complete Satnala project by the end of Kharif season. (NSS)
