Helicopter crashes into southern California building

California, March 14: A Helicopter crashed into a building Sunday morning in El Segundo, California, Fox News Channel reported.

El Segundo Fire Department Chief Kevin Smith said the helicopter was lifting an air-conditioning unit from the roof of the Raytheon Company Space and Airborne Systems building around 9.30am local time when it went down.

The chopper clipped the side of the building as it fell and caught fire.

The fire spread to the first and second floors of the building as the helicopter crashed into the ground. The three-alarm fire was subsequently extinguished by firefighters.

The pilot of the helicopter had unspecified injuries, and was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were en route to the scene to investigate the cause of the crash.
