Islamabad, June 01: Officials say the helicopter was carrying four personnel — including the head of the provincial paramilitary force when it crashed into the Indus River, a Press TV correspondent reported on Wednesday.
A local police officer says it caught fire in mid-air and plunged into the river.
A rescue team has recovered one body from the wreckage but was not able to identify it.
The exact cause of the crash is being investigated. The helicopter was reportedly flying in bad weather and went down in a dust storm when visibility was poor.
“The cause of the crash is being investigated. It appears to have been a technical fault, but the weather was also bad,” AFP quoted military spokesman Major Farooq Feroz as saying.
Pakistan’s military has had several crashes involving helicopters over the past several years.
