Hyderabd, June 15: Henceforth, heavy vehicles plying between Golconda and Langer Houz junction and Langer Houz police station to Golconda will not be
allowed.
A decision to this effect was taken as a result of frequent traffic jams at the junction.
A flyover was planned to ease vehicular congestion on the narrow stretch, but with the construction getting delayed for more than two years, it has made the situation worse for road-users.
With the implementation of the restrictions, vehicles would not be allowed to take free left on the stretch. All heavy vehicles heading towards Golconda would have to go via Tolichowki and Qutb Shahi tombs. However, heavy vehicular traffic would be allowed between Nanalnagar and Bapughat.
Widening of the road between Langer Houz and Bapughat has been stalled due to locals obstructing to shifting of a burial ground.
With defence authorities already allowing Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to take up road-widening, the carriageway is just 20 feet. With many engineering colleges located near Gandipet, the traffic flow in that direction is extremely high. Traffic police said the problem would be solved once the flyover is completed. With the existing road space between Pratap theatre and a petrol bunk at the junction nearly 15 feet, traffic crawls during peak hours.
Two-wheelers and cars, however, would be allowed between Langer Houz police station and Golconda, but heavy vehicles would have to take alternative route. “We want to make sure students and others heading towards Andhra Pradesh Police Academy (APPA) will not be affected,” additional commissioner of police (Traffic) N V Surendra Babu said.
