Hyderabad: Being an IT hub of India, Hyderabad sewage and rain water management severely fail every time when there are heavy rains. The torrential downpour on Friday left several pockets inundated and its crater-ridden roads were exposed.
While the daytime temperature was seen as 30-31 degrees Celsius range, it dropped to 29.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Several parts of the otherwise upscale IT corridor were inundated.
Luxury residential colonies areas such as Madhapur, Kothaguda, Nizampet, Madinaguda, and Chandanagar were among the worst affected, with many homes inaccessible during the day, reports TOI.
“Water gushed into our area, which is low-lying, from the road near Deloitte in the middle of the night. It left our cellar (18 feet) completely flooded. Also, our 20-feet-long compound wall collapsed. Around 20 cars and 30 bikes were found floating in the water. We are stuck inside without water or electricity since Friday night,” said T R Srinivas, a techie in Dev Manor Apartments, Vithalrao Nagar. Residents were seen pumping out water till Saturday evening.
The condition of people in Miyapur and Deeptisrinagar Colony were particularly terrible. A resident of Deeptisrinagar, P Srikanth, complained: “This is how our situation is year after year. Even last year, 15-20 cars were completely submerged after overnight rains. We were told that it is water from Miyapur lake that entered the colony as the nalas were blocked. Each year we hear the same excuse, with the authorities doing nothing to resolve it.”
On Saturday, people on motorbikes had a tough time navigating near Hafeezpet flyover as water was overflowing. Many people were stuck in the traffic for over an hour. Main road from Miyapur to Chandanagar remained flooded.
Several main roads in Hi-Tec City were also flooded. “I was stuck near Google office, Kothaguda for nearly 20 minutes and on reaching Cyber Towers junction, my auto driver decided to leave me midway as he feared his vehicle would get stuck,” said Richa Sharma, a resident of the area.
