Bhopal:Two persons were swept away and drowned in flooded nullahs in two separate incidents in Madhya Pradesh in the last 24 hours as heavy rains lashed many parts of the state.
A passenger vehicle carrying 24 people was washed away in a swollen nullah at Bahari Dand village in Singrauli district last night. All the passengers swam to safety, except Ramlallu Bagia (40) whose body was fished out today, Chitranji police station inspector R P Mishra said.
Four persons were washed away in a nullah along Bamhani main road in Mandla district today. While a rescue team deputed near the nullah rescued three of them, a woman called Vimla Bai (30) drowned, said the district collector Preeti Methil.
Her body had been retrieved, she added.
Rains are lashing many parts of MP for the last three days. Very heavy rains are likely in Satna, Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Raisen, Sagar and Damoh districts in the next 24 hours, Indian Meteorological Department’s Bhopal Centre Director Dr Anupam Kashyapi said.
Bhopal, Narsinghpur, Vidisha and Betul districts too are expected to receive heavy rain, he added.
