Heavy rains lashes Hyderabad

Hyderabad, June 11: Giving respite from the scorching heat, heavy rain lashed several parts of the city on Friday. The rains are likely to cause problem for commuters in 14 major junctions due to waterlogging. Although waterlogging due to the rains did not affect commuters in most areas today, the Hyderabad Traffic Police have identified 125 places in the city which will be waterlogged in the event of incessant rains.

Of the 125 places, Hyderabad Traffic Police said 14 places are most likely to be water logged for over an hour even after the rains stop.

Areas to be avoided

DCP Traffic G.V.G. Ashok Kumar, said the commuters could avoid getting stuck in heavy traffic for hours by avoiding the 14 areas of Lal Bungalow in Ameerpet, KCP, Khairtabad, Villa Marry College in Somajiguda, Model House in Panjagutta, Mythrivanam, SR Nagar, Road No.1/12 junction of Banjara Hills, Road No.12 near the Kaman at Banjara Hills, Yousufguda check-post, Ranigunj, Karbala Maidan, Alugaddabavi in Secunderabad, Fever Hospital in Kachiguda, Gangabowli and Lalazar Railway Bridge in Chaderghat, when it rains heavily.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had been notified of the problem in these areas last year and they had promised to take up urgent rectification measures at these places this year.

Uncovered manholes

Uncovered manholes continued to be a major cause of concern for pedestrians and motorists alike, even as potholes obstructed traffic flow in several areas.
