Heavy rains lash parts of Rajsthan, over 1,000 rescued

Jaipur: Over 1,050 people have been rescued from Rajasthan’s Jalore, Pali, Barmer and Rajsamand districts, where heavy rains created flood-like situation.

Teams of the Army are on their toes to evacuate people to safe places from water logged area and providing them medicines and food to those affected in the region, especially in Jalore, a state government official said.

More than 525 persons from these districts have been rehabilitated to 20 special relief camps, a public relations officer of the state government said.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is monitoring the the rescue and relief operations measures, the official said.

He said that 528 persons from Jalore, 235 from Sirohi, 165 from Pali, 120 from Barmer and three from Rajsamand districts have been taken to safe places so far.

NDRF teams and boats were sent through helicopters in the Jalore, which is the worst affected, he added.

Four teams from the NDRF and the SDRF each, three teams of the Army, one of the CRPF, two Airforce helicopters and home guards are involved in rescue operations in affected districts.

Defence spokesperson Manish Ojha said that people stuck in Jalore and Sanchore were provided food packets, water and other essentials.

Meanwhile, heavy rains isolated places in various parts of the state.

In eastern Rajasthan, Dug recorded 19 cm of rainfall, while Gangdhar and Chabra areas recorded rainfall of 13cm each.

Bakani and and Aklera received 11 cm and 10 cm of rains respectively, the MeT Department said.

In western Rajasthan, Bhinmal recorded 13cm of rainfall followed by 10 cm in Raniwada, 6 cm each in Marwar Junction, Sumerpur and Erinpura/jawai Dam.

The weatherman said Ajmer recorded 3.2 cm of rainfall, while Jaipur and Dabok received 1.02 cm and 1.5 cm of rains respectively, followed by 1.3 each in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer.

The MeT has predicted heavy rainfall very likely in isolated places of the state except Bikaner region over the next 24 hours.
