Heavy rains lash Dehradun

Dehradun: Heavy rains lashed Dehradun and its adjoining areas today even as the MeT department issued a heavy rain alert for both Kumaon and Garhwal regions of Uttarakhand for the next 24 hours.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places especially in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Chamoli, Nainital, U S Nagar and Pithoragarh districts of the states during the next 24 hours, it said.

In advisory, the department said there is a possibility of increase in land slide and road blocks at a number of places in the hills and the inundation of low lying areas in the plains due to widespread rainfall and heavy rainfall at isolated places in the next 24 hours.

It said authorities have been advised to monitor the situation and allow restricted traffic movement in the hills and ensure safety of people residing in low lying areas, it said.
