Heavy rains, coupled with strong winds, have disrupted the normal life in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad on Friday.
The heavy rains that lashed the city on Friday evening brought the city to a standstill leaving almost all roads and low-lying areas waterlogged. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on roads, setting off massive traffic jams. Several trees were uprooted and fell on main roads which brought the vehicular traffic to a complete halt. Reports of heavy damage to electricity lines have been reported from several areas in the city which led to a complete shutdown in almost all areas.
Heavy traffic jams was reported from Lakdikapul, Khairtabad X-Road, Somajiguda, Punjagutta, SR Nagar, Uppal, Ramathapur, Kukatpally, Afzalgunj, Secunderabad, Mehdipatnam, Masab Tank and almost all other major roads.
The GHMC has deployed over 100 teams to attend to the complaints of water logging and fall of trees. The electricity department too began restoration of power supply by deploying additional personnel. (INN)
