Heavy rains in Kerala since Sunday afternoon have caused huge loss to property and claimed 17 lives.
The hilly district of Idukki was the worst affected, as landslides were reported in 16 places.
A number of flights were cancelled on Monday as operations at the Cochin International Airport at nearby Nedumbassery were suspended till Tuesday evening after water entered the parking bay and taxi way. The airport will reopen after 3.30 pm today.
In a bid to accelerate relief and rescue operations in Idukki and Aluva areas, eight contingents of Army and National Disaster Relief Force have been called.
Cheeyapara near Munnar, the famous hill station, saw a huge mass of hillside slip. The incident occurred when vehicles were parked on the road beneath, witnesses said.
