Heavy rain lashes national capital

New Delhi, February 12: Heavy rains, accompanied by lightning and thundershowers, drenched the national capital this evening, registering a record for showers this month in the past three years.

The rain gauges measured 14 mm till 8:30 pm within three hours after the showers began. The major portion of the rains was between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm though there were showers in the city even after that.

The heavy rains also created problems for commuters as vehicular traffic was affected in many parts of the city. The Weatherman yesterday predicted that the city would receive showers towards this evening.

This is the highest rainfall during the month of February in the past three years. On the intervening of February eight and nine, the rain gauges had measured 14.8 mm.

Last February got 4.7 mm of rains while in 2008, the rain gauges measured 3.1 mm in February.
