Heavy rain forecast in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall coupled with gusty surface winds are likely to lash many parts of Odisha for the next four days due to a cyclonic circulation, the India Meteorological Department said.

The cyclonic circulation over East-Central Bay of Bengal is expected to take the shape of a low pressure by Sunday, it said.

Under its impact, moderate to heavy rain is likely to lash several parts of the state, mainly coastal and interior areas, till October 9, said S C Sahu, director of the regional MeT centre here.

Noting that several areas of the state have been experiencing rainfall since yesterday, he said similar weather conditions marked by incessant rains are likely to continue till Monday.

Heavy rainfall could occur in many parts of the state, particularly coastal areas like Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Ganjam as well as the interior regions, the MeT office said.

With forecast of strong winds at speeds of 45-55 kmph along and off the Odisha coast, fishermen have been asked to not venture into the sea.

Rainfall was recorded at many places over the state in the last 24 hours with heavy rainfall at one or two places over coastal Odisha, including districts like Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak and Kendrapara.
