Dehradun: The weatherman today issued a heavy rain alert for Uttarakhand’s Garhwal region for the next 36 hours.
While light to moderate showers are very likely at many places in Uttarakhand, heavy rains are likley to lash isolated places especially in Garhwal region, MeT office Director Vikram Singh said.
Thunder squalls and hailstorms are also likely to occur at isolated places in the hill state during the period, he said.
He advised people to avoid venturing out in heavy rain especially chardham pilgrimage yatris.
“Pilgrims are advised to wait in shelters along the chardham yatra route in case of heavy rains and resume their journey only when the weather clears,” Singh said.
Thunder squalls blowing at a speed of around 80 kmph had hit Dehradun and its immediate neighbourhood on Sunday evening uprooting trees and disrupting power supply.
