On the first day of Ramadan heavy showers continued intermittently through out the night. Several parts of the city including areas of Tolichowki were plunged into darkness causing inconvenience to Muslims who woke up at midnight for Sehr (pre dawn meal).
In 2 incidents of wall collapses 9 persons were reported to be killed including 2 women and 3 children at Miyapur and Balanagar. The wall of the old building collapsed and fell on the huts near Narsapur crossroads in Balanagar. In another incident, the wall of a house collapsed at Adityanagar in Hafeezpet of Miyapur around 4 a.m. killing four of a family who were asleep.
Reports of water-logging have been received from several parts of the city. The incessant rain resulted in water stagnation and traffic jams on busy roads. The heavy showers flooded the busy roads of Ameerpet, Punjagutta, Khairiatabad, S P Road, Raj Bhavan, Mehdipatnam, Masab Tank, Himayathnagar, Ashoknagar, Amberpet, Gandhi Bhavan, MJ Market. Heavy rainfall disrupted normal life in several parts of old city with rain water entering several houses of Talabkatta and Bhavani Nagar. Supplies of basic necessities also got affected as the hawkers and milkmen could not venture into the flooded streets. Met officials forecast similar weather for the next 48 hours.
