Heatwave sweeps India claiming almost 130 lives

New Delhi: Heatwave continues to sweep many parts of India due to which the death toll has risen to 130 from 111 in a span of one week. The temperature touched 44° Celsius in three Telangana districts on Thursday, a day after Hyderabad broke a 43-year record with mercury reaching the 43°C level.

Central and Peninsular India continues to witness the hottest April as temperatures in parts of Maharashtra, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Telangana have remained beyond 40°C in last ten days.

Almost 100 people have died in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh due to heat wave conditions till now, while sunstroke has claimed 30 lives in Odisha. Dry weather is likely to prevail parts of Central and East India due to which maximum temperature is likely to settle between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius. The MeT office said north India would also witness heatwave conditions hotter by 2-4 degrees.
