Karimnagar, July 21: Utter confusion prevailed at the District Review Committee meet here today as the Congress and opposition leaders exchanged heated arguments over a debate on illegal construction of Babli project on Godavari by the Maharashtra Government.
The meet was presided over by district in-charge minister J Krishna Rao. At the start of the meet, TDP and TRS MLAs demanded a debate on Babli issue to which ministers J Krishna Rao and D Sridharbabu objected stating that it would be taken up in the end as it would consume all the time.
TRS Assembly floor leader E Rajender and TDP MLA L Ramana maintained that with the project SRSP would be deprived of water and Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Warangal districts would turn into deserts with lack of irrigation facilities.
Sporting `black kanduvas,’ the opposition protested against the Government’s apathy on Babli issue which was objected by MP Ponnam Prabhakar.
Sircilla MLA K Rama Rao found fault with the Government contending that the Congress should have included few opposition members in its delegation which met Central Water Committee recently.
Minister Sridharbabu assured the opposition that next time they would include opposition membes too in the delegation. The meet which started nearly one-and-a-half hour pandemonium, discussed various issues on the agenda.
District MPs, MLAs, District Collector Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Joint Collector Ch Vijayamohan and other district officials were present.
